Apple Releases tvOS 27.2 With HomePod Surround Sound Support
Apple today released tvOS 27.2, the first major update to the tvOS 27 operating system that runs on the Apple TV 4K. tvOS 27.2 can be downloaded using the Settings app on the Apple TV.
Open up Settings and go to System > Software Update to get the new software. Apple TV owners who have automatic software updates activated will be upgraded to tvOS 27.2 automatically.
Today's update adds support for four-speaker surround sound, a feature that works with the HomePod, HomePod mini 2, and the upcoming Apple TV 4K. It allows the Apple TV 4K to be used with four HomePod mini 2 speakers, four second-generation HomePods, or two HomePods and two HomePod mini 2 speakers to get surround sound.
The HomePod mini 2 launches on October 30, while the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K will come out on November 13.
