You want to buy something but cannot say exactly what, so you scroll Pinterest or TikTok for ideas. Dalet Labs wants AI to take over that step: a feed of generated scenes in which everything you see can be bought.
The company has launched a shopping app called Scene and announced a $7 million pre-seed round led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, with SV Angel and individual angels participating.
The images are fake, the products are real
In Scene's feed, the people and settings are AI-generated, but the items they wear or sit among come from real brands in fashion, home decor and sports. Tap a product to see the brand and price and add it to your bag, then check out inside the app. As you linger and tap, the feed adapts and generates new scenes with people wearing or using the kind of items you seem to like.
Founder Omer Bar-Tal started New York-based Dalet Labs after leaving AI video startup Runway last year. He likens Scene to a "virtual mall" for people who want to buy but have not made up their minds. His argument is that AI assistants are great when you already know what you want, but shopping is a delightful act of discovery, and chat alone misses that.
How it makes money, and where it gets hard
For now Scene earns through affiliate marketing, working with affiliate networks to take a cut of each in-app purchase. The company says its catalog spans hundreds of brands and retailers, with more partnerships in the works. To get users, it plans to lean on influencers and social media, plus a holiday coupon campaign for new users.
The challenges are just as clear. TikTok Shop and Pinterest are already strong in shopping discovery, and startups such as Doji and Alta use AI imagery for virtual try-on. A more practical issue is that a generated model looking good in a shirt says little about how it will look on you. Fit, fabric and color are where real purchases go wrong, and whether people trust such polished images will decide whether they come back.
Scene is live only on the US App Store, by invitation, with no Android version yet. Brands should watch it as a new channel. Shoppers can treat it as an inspiration tool and check sizing and reviews on the retailer's page before paying.
