The CNCF Technical Oversight Committee (TOC) voted to accept Meshery as a CNCF incubating project.

Meshery is used by organizations spanning aerospace, telecommunications, networking, and enterprise software as a single cloud native management plane that gives engineering teams unified lifecycle, configuration, and performance control over their Kubernetes and cloud native environments instead of stitching together a separate toolchain for every mesh they run.

Meshery’s Milestones and Ecosystem Development

Meshery is an open source, cloud native manager and self-service engineering platform for designing, visualizing, and operating Kubernetes-based infrastructure across clouds. It helps teams standardize configurations, enforce governance, and collaborate on infrastructure designs through visual models and reusable patterns. Originally created by Lee Calcote and the team at Layer5 in 2019, Meshery has grown into an extensible platform that unifies infrastructure models, design patterns, and operational controls into a single workspace.

Since Meshery was accepted as a CNCF sandbox project on June 22, 2021, it has become the fifth highest-velocity project in the CNCF, seeing a 350% increase in code commits over the past year (during the one-year period from July 1, 2025 to July 1, 2026) and announcing the general availability of Meshery v1.0. From its start in the CNCF sandbox, Meshery has more than 7,000 contributors and 1000 contributing organizations, with a 36.6% year-over-year increase in active contributors and a 10.9% increase in active organizations. It has earned almost 15,000 GitHub stars, has had over 3,800 forks, and has an LFX Insights software value of $393 million.

Meshery’s Roadmap

Looking ahead, the Meshery community is focused on a few enhancements, including expanded multi-cluster and fleet management with fine-grained Kubernetes RBAC integration and native multi-cluster meshconfig support, agentic infrastructure management through a new Meshery MCP Server for AI-assisted, read-only access to the Registry and cluster state, broader performance management spanning distributed performance testing and adaptive load optimizers, and a more governed registry and workflow engine to support policy-driven configuration management.

CNCF-Hosted Projects

The CNCF TOC provides technical leadership to the cloud native projects and community. It defines and maintains the foundation’s technical vision, approves new projects, and stewards them across maturity levels. The TOC also aligns projects within the overall ecosystem, sets cross-cutting standards and best practices, and works with end users to ensure long-term sustainability.
