US core banking vendor Jack Henry falls victim to ransomware attack
Source: Finextra U.S. core banking vendor Jack Henry (Nasdaq: JKHY), an S&P 500 company, has been bit by a ransomware attack.
The company says the incident involved access to its internal corporate environment through a social engineering voice phishing scheme initiated by ShinyHunters, a criminal hacker and extortion group.
The hackers managed to extract personally identifiable data from ten of the firm's 7,200 client banks.
The Monett, Mo.-based company has hired an independent third-party cyber forensics firm to support its investigation and response efforts and is actively collaborating with federal law enforcement "This incident involved an extortion attempt, and we are not making any payment to the threat actor," says the vendor in a statement.
